The unit patch typically goes on the left shoulder. Present unit worn on the LEFT Shoulder in the American Army. The right shoulder reserve for a unit you saw qualifying Combat Operations with. U.S. Army patches are unique in that all Army soldiers are require to wear U.S. Army unit patches as part of their uniform.

According to these guidelines, soldiers must place unit patches (SSI) on the left shoulder of their OCP or ACU jacket. If authorized, they wear a combat patch (SSI–FWTS) on the right shoulder.
