What is a Hook Fastener?
– It is the fastening system.
Velcro-backed patches play a critical role in today’s military uniforms, especially for OCP and ACU configurations. According to AR 670-1 regulations, soldiers must attach unit patches, rank insignia, and name tapes in a way that allows quick removal and replacement—without damaging the uniform. That’s why Velcro backing remains the preferred method across active units.
Unlike traditional sewn-on patches, Velcro-backed designs enable rapid updates for promotions, deployments, or duty changes. Soldiers in elite groups like the 82nd Airborne, Special Forces, and Recruiting Command rely on Velcro to stay mission-ready and uniform-compliant.
At Kim’s #1 Sewing, we apply military-grade hook-and-loop systems that lock securely in place, even under field stress. We align each patch with care, ensuring perfect placement on OCP jackets, patrol caps, and boonie hats. Furthermore, our products meet all AR 670-1 standards, so you can wear them with confidence.
Because we understand the needs of today’s Army, we deliver patches that adapt, perform, and last. Whether you’re outfitting for inspection or customizing gear for deployment, trust Kim’s #1 to provide durable, regulation-compliant Velcro solutions that stand up to the mission.

MIL-SPEC Regulation
18th airborne corps patch
Military personnel follow AR 670-1 uniform regulations when attaching patches to their uniforms. According to these guidelines, soldiers must place unit patches (SSI) on the left shoulder of their OCP or ACU jacket. If authorized, they wear a combat patch (SSI–FWTS) on the right shoulder. Additionally, they position rank insignia, name tapes, and U.S. Army tapes directly above the chest pockets for a sharp, professional appearance.
In addition, soldiers sew skill badges like Airborne or Air Assault above the U.S. Army tape. Today, most prefer Velcro-backed patches for quick adjustments and replacements. However, regulations limit soldiers to one of each patch type unless their command approves otherwise.
At the same time, Kim’s #1 Sewing ensures every patch meets exact military guidelines. Our expert seamstresses apply and stitch each patch with precision. As a result, every item is perfectly aligned on patrol caps, boonie hats, and ACU jackets to ensure compliance.
